The following is referring to General Nathaniel Greene (1742-1786)Greene-872 "Congress, presently later the nomination and appointment of the commander-in-chief, created and filled the offices of subordinate generals. Artemus Ward, Charles Lee, Philip Schuyler and Israel Putnam, were appointed major generals ; Horatio Gates, aide full general, and Seth Pomeroy, Richard Montgomery, Daniel Wooster, William Heath, Joseph Spencer, John Thomas, John Sullivan and Nathaniel Green, brigadier generals."
